Klutina River 2010
SALMON FISHING REPORT

July 1st
Opening day and there were lots of kings to be had and our 3 boats of 10 total fishermen were able to catch their limits and then some.  The sockeyes are in thick, and several fishermen were able to get both their King and Sockeyes.  It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 2nd

Another great day on the Klutina River. 8 clients with 21 hookups, and 14 Kings Landed!  It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 3rd

Another great day on the Klutina River. 7 clients with 34 hookups, and 11 Kings Landed!  Getting the fish to bite was not the problem today.  Getting them to shore was.  Today in my boat I had a 10 year old boy catch his first King Salmon ever!  It was cool!
It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

Dad had to help hold it up!

July 4th

The Klutina River has been a lot of fun so far the season, with only 4 days of fishing under our belts we have put over 40 Kings in the net!  Hard to describe what it is like to fish the Klutina River when the fishing is HOT!
After we got our Kings today we switched it up and went for the sockeyes.  They were in thick!  Everyone pulled on sockeyes until they were tired of them.
It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 5th

Fishing the Klutina has been so good this year that today when we had no clients we did not let it go to waste.  The KingFisher's Perch Family went fishing!  Grandpa (Ken) Dad - Guide (Randy) Son - Guide (Josh) Grandson -Guide in training (Caleb) + the other guides headed up the Klutina to see what we could do.  Randy threw 4 casts and landed 3 Kings! NO JOKE!  Grandpa fished for 15 minutes and got his one.  Grandson Caleb caught his first King of the year a fat 25 pounder!  And Josh after netting everyone's fish had a little time to land a few his self.
It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 6th

With only 4 fishermen today we had a ball. 23 hookups, with 19 kings landed, we are excited to be on the river in the upcoming fishing days.

July 7th

No Fishermen today.  We all took the day off to sleep and recuperate for the upcoming fishing days.

July 8th

Today we had two fishermen from the UK, and we got to show them why Alaska is really special.  Fishing for only a few hours produced several Kings in the 50 pound class!  We caught and released Kings all morning.  Then switched over to look for the Sockeye.  Most of the Sockeyes have moved through.  After running the boat up to 6 mile on the river and finding no Sockeye action we decided to catch a few more Kings and call it a day.  It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

Nice 30 pound King caught 7-8-09

Evening trip on the 8th.  4 people fishing for 6 hours hooked 18 Kings, and landed 12.  It seems like there are more fish in the Klutina now than there has been in years past.

July 9th

Fishing today for Joshua's 4 people in the Jet boat was a little tougher than it has been.  4 clients hooked 11 Kings and landed 4.  Everyone was able to land their own fish.  Randy's boat did a little better with over 18 hookups and 5 Kings landed.  Randy's 3 fishermen got their 3 Kings!  Few sockeyes were seen with only a couple hooked today.  Still waiting for the second push of Sockeyes to come into the Klutina River.  It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 10th

CRAZY! That is all I have to say about today!  We hooked more fish today than I have hooked in one day in several years.  3 Fishermen with over 50 hookups! The Klutina River has come up 2 feet in the last 2 days and the Kings are moving!  There are lots of new fish coming into the river right now, lots of large males hooked today.  Several 50 pouders landed and released.  It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

Cool story today.  A guest hooked a huge King salmon, and after fighting it for about 5 minutes in the hole the fish decided to head down river!  We jumped in the Danger Zone (jet boat) and chased it down the river 4 miles.  And after 40 minutes of fighting this beast and it jumping 7 times out of the water it managed to get off the hook.  Guide estimate weight at 65 - 70 pounds!

July 11th

We had a major shift in weather last night.  Thunder storm, and rain came in hard and it rained all night. When we headed to the river we saw that the main water turned muddy.  Fishing at the awesome hole for yesterday for 2 hours only produced 2 hookups.  So we moved up the river, stopping at 5.5 mile on the river we finally were able to connect with a large king.  4 clients and only 1 King in the boat, we decided to move up the river again.  We found where the mud was coming into the river.  The large mud slide at 8 mile was putting a ton of mud in the river.  Picking a new spot at 9 mile produced 8 more hookups and we were able to get our other 3 kings!  Tough day on the river, but we still got our 4 Kings!
It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 12th

The river started to clear from the rain that we had night before last.  We did not spend any time fishing below 9 mile.  Perfect Cast hole produced 16 hookups.  Fishing got really great again.  KingFisher's Perch is still 100% success in the 2009 fishing season! It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

Still getting chrome KINGS!

July 13th

Not much to say other than Awesome.  Today we had over 50 King Salmon on the line.  Only landing 14 means one thing!  These fish are tough!  They are really hard to land, and you will work to catch yours! It was a great day on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 14th - 18th

The river report has been much of the same over the last week.  Lots of kings and lots of happy anglers.  We did loose our record on the 16th we had one fisherman not land a King Salmon.  It was still a great day of fishing on the Klutina River, in the Copper River Valley!

July 18th - Aug 10th

We moved into the peak of the King Salmon fishing season.  Due to being so busy the river reports did no get filled out and posted every day.  One thing that is for sure we still caught Kings and Sockeye salmon every day of the Klutina River. Until Fish & Game closed the river August 10th.
